Olivier Laban-Mattei has been a permanent member of Agence M.Y.O.P. since 2013.

He started to work as a freelance photojournalist in 1999 after studying geography and sociology. He became the correspondent for the AFP in Corsica, from where the Mattei family, on his mother's side, originates.

After ten years in the AFP, covering world events (wars in Iraq, Gaza, Georgia, insurrection in Iran, earthquake in Haiti, cyclones in Java and Burma), Olivier Laban-Mattei moved to a career as an independent photographer. While continuing to follow some current topics (the Arab Spring, the war in Libya), he now focusses on long-term projects. For "The Mongolian Project". Olivier travelled to Mongolia several times before settling there for a year. The project resulted in a book, Mongols (Neus, 2013), and an exhibition "Mongolia, the Eldorado does not exist" showed at Visa pour l'Image in 2014. It depicts Ulaanbaatar as a city close to asphyxia, which  is undergoing unbridled expansion whilst living under the permanent threat of an earthquake. A second book is currently in production.

Olivier Laban-Mattei also works on numerous occasions with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). In 2014 and 2015, he reported on the Central African crisis and conflict-related traumas.

His work has received several prizes, including three World Press awards, two Paris Match awards, two Pictures Of the Year International (POYi).
