Mexican diary

This serie is an invitation to reflect upon the meaning of ordinary “ruins” and the aesthetics of everyday life. It has been shot in Mexico during a 4-months residency. The intent of this project is to develop a reflection on worn-out aspects of realityandhow certain elements of our surroundings, without disappearing, lose the strength of what once had a form and a name. This series of pictures, composed as a reference to still life painting, focuses on the concept of metamorphosis and the process of degradation. Moreover, it is a research on the medium of photography itself, questionning the tight relationship between image and relic, considering photographs as « glorified images », both a symbol of disappearance and resistance, occuring in a reference to something that no longer exists. This project is about the sacralization of ordinary residues and the vanity implicit in the idea of decay.
